7th & 8th Grade World Language Teachers
Our World Language curriculum works with the four skills of language learning: listening, reading, writing, and speaking. We also emphasize the five goals of learning languages: communication, cultures, connections, comparisons, and communities. We use Comprehensible Input to help students acquire a language which means less focus on learning grammar rules and vocabulary lists and more focus on true communication, both oral and written.
Using the interpersonal, presentational, and interpretive modes, 7th-grade students will be able to: meet and greet friends and adults, describe people and things, discuss what they do in school and in their free time, and be able to talk about clothing and its cultural relevance.
Using the same modes, 8th-grade students will add to this knowledge by learning about how they use technology in comparison to other students around the world, where they might like to travel, and the cultural traditions which appertain to countries that they have studied as well as their own.
Beginning with the class of 2025, students who complete grade 7 World Language and complete and pass the same World Language (e.g., Spanish and Spanish) in grade 8 at WJJMS will earn 1.0 World Language credit towards graduation.
