8TH GRADE INNOVATIONS CLASS WINS CT SCIENCE CENTER’S ANNUAL UPCYCLED GINGERBOARD HOUSE COMPETITION

Thank you to everyone who voted online for our project in the Hartford Courant/CT Science Center's annual upcycled Gingerboard House Competition. WE WON! We were selected as one of the winners for the Community Partners category, up against businesses, schools and professional maker spaces. The staff at the Connecticut Science Center were so impressed that instead of the original prize (4 four packs of tickets to the science center) they awarded each of the students a free ticket PLUS hats, t-shirts, candy, pens, fidget toys, AND a set of super nice wireless headphones for each student!  We couldn't have done it without your votes, so thank you again!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Ngai & 8th grade Innovations students Ben Buyniski, Naia Coelho, Emma Corn, Aivree Durnik, Ava Golubeff, Brynn Herboldt, Caelyn McLear, Liam Sweeney, Cameron Taskey, & Natalie Uhrig.

BOE COVID PROTOCOL UPDATE JANUARY 9, 2022

The District is continuing to review the new guidance from the CDC, CSDE and CT-DPH and the impact on how we review and report cases. Starting on January 10, 2022, messages will continue to be sent at the elementary level to families in an individual class if there is a positive case in that class. Any cases involving building-wide staff at the elementary level will be sent to all families. At the secondary school level, messages will be sent to all families at the end of the school day with the total number of cases. Only those cases in which the staff or student member was in school will be reported; no outside cases will be reported. In addition, by the end of the day tomorrow the district will change the Positive Cases graph located at www.colchesterct.org/c_o_v_i_d-19 to one for each school and will show weekly totals only.

A MESSAGE FROM WJJMS STUDENT JACK GRIMM, WHO CREATED A PROJECT FUNDRAISER FOR OCEAN CONSERVANCY

Ocean Conservancy is a charity dedicated to cleaning marine debris out of the ocean. To support the cause, I'm asking students and staff to drop off returnables/recyclables in the bins outside of each grade's pod. Returnables/recyclables may be brought in from home (no glass or alcoholic beverage recyclables). Monetary donations will also be accepted. Thank you for helping this important cause.

HONOR ROLL

Attached is our WJJMS Quarter 1 Honor Roll. Congrats!

A NOTE TO THE OFFICE

Our Note to the Office form is convenient! Print it, send one of them in with your student about an early pickup need, a previous absence, a tardy, or vacation. If your student is leaving early, we can prepare them with a pass to be in the office five minutes before your arrival after they leave class without an interruption.
