WJJMS LMC BOGO BOOK FAIR THANKS

Dear WJJMS Community, thank you for helping make the BOGO Book Fair a success! This is always a favorite among students and staff as they walk away with a free book with every book purchased. Happy Reading!

 

BACON ACADEMY CHEER TRYOUTS 

BA Cheer tryouts will be held June 3rd & 7th 4:30-7pm in the BA Gym. Open to all students currently in 8-11 grade. Wear athletic clothing, sneakers/cheer shoes, and hair up. S.T.E.P.S.

S.T.E.P.S.’  Annual Youth Leadership Day is on Saturday, May 21st at Mitchell College’s Clarke Center in New London from 9:00 – 2:30, and is free for students in grades 6-12 in southeastern Connecticut.  Students will have a choice of activities and will find something for everyone with the focus on health and wellness. S.T.E.P.S. (Striving Toward Empowered Personal Success) was founded in 2008 with the mission to provide young women and girls the tools necessary to build lives of integrity and self-sufficiency through the empowerment of positive change. This year S.T.E.P.S. will be collaborating with Community Level Up and Soroptimist CT Shoreline to offer greater opportunities and resources for those attending. Join us to continue to build stronger youth for a stronger world.  Help us spread the word and bring a few friends.

COMMUNITY WELLNESS FAIR

The Community Wellness Fair will be taking place at WJJMS on Sunday, May 15th from 11 – 2 p.m. Take part in sound-healing with Kevin Young, and/or many other opportunities. Students can attain a free Kona treat by attending a break-out session, and earn extra credit for attending!

 

SPRING 2022 AFTER SCHOOL CLUBS

Unity Club LGBTQ & Allies, 6th & 7th Grade Homework Club (combined), and 8th Grade Homework Clubs are being offered at this time. Fill out a registration form, Clubs are starting!

8TH GRADE NEWS!

PROMOTION PROGRAM ARTWORK OPPORTUNITY:

8th grade students are invited to design the front cover for our printed Promotion Programs which are handed out to parents and families on the night of Promotion. The cover design should be created in black on a 4.25” x 5.5” sheet of white paper. This year’s Promotion Program artwork entries are due by Friday, June 3, 2022. Please turn in artwork to Ms. Tamburrino in the main office. If your design entry is digital, please email [email protected]

PROMOTION COMMOTION SEMI-FORMAL:

Tuesday, June 14, 2022 from 6 – 8:00 p.m. in The Commons. WJJMS students only, no guests will be allowed. Please wear appropriate attire such as neat slacks, button-down shirts, skirts, dresses. Sneakers and sandals are allowed. Students must be in attendance (at school) the day of the dance and be eligible for Promotion. Puma Pride Core Values are expected.

8th GRADE FIELD TRIP:

The 8th Grade field trip to High Meadow Resort in Granby will be June 15th from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The cost is $56.00 (student behavioral points will be used toward eligibility). Field trip permission forms with payment are due Wednesday, June 1, 2022.

PROMOTION PRACTICE:

8th grade students promoting to 9th grade will be dropped off by their buses at BA first thing in the morning on Thursday, June 16, 2022. Parents who drive their students to school should drive their students directly to Bacon Academy. Walkers can walk to Bacon Academy, take a bus from WJJMS to Bacon, Academy or take their bus from home. Students will be at WJJMS by approximately 9:30 a.m. Students are handed their Promotion Tickets at Promotion Practice.

PROMOTION TICKETS:

All families will receive four tickets to attend the Promotion Ceremony. 8th grade students do not need tickets. Promotion tickets are distributed to students at Promotion practice which is held the morning of the Promotion Ceremony. Should your family need additional Promotion tickets, please contact the office at 860.537.2313 or send a note in with your student so that we may adjust the number of Promotion tickets that your student receives during Promotion practice.

PROMOTION CEREMONY:

The Promotion Ceremony will be held at 6:00 p.m. in the Bacon Academy gym on Thursday, June 16, 2022. We ask that students arrive by 5:45 p.m. As a suggestion, appropriate attire for the evening would be slacks and a tie (jackets are optional) or a simple sun dress or skirt with a blouse. Students will have been handed four (4) tickets during their promotion practice. Students do not need a ticket, and if your family needs extra tickets, you may request them.

PROMOTION PICNIC AND T-SHIRTS:

The WJJMS PTO is happy to coordinate the annual event for 8th graders to celebrate their promotion with their classmates. Pizza, snacks, drinks and desserts will be served. Special Bacon Academy T-shirts will be given to all students promoting to 9th grade. Print and fill out the Promotion Picnic form, and send it in to the Office. We are asking for a $10.00 donation to help defray the costs of pizza, t-shirts, drinks, paper goods, and entertainment. We will also need volunteers on the day of the picnic.

Memorial Day Parade – Sunday, May 29 at 12 p.m. Marching Band

Band & Chorus Fun Day - Friday, June 3 (students must be in good behavioral standing to participate).


WJJMS BROADWAY CAFÉ BAKING FOR CHARITY

The Broadway Cafe' Bakers are busy learning about global awareness and the art of creating a charity baking event, Cupcakes For Ukraine, with proceeds to benefit the Global Giving Ukraine Crisis Relief Fund. This tasteful fundraiser will be going on during the entire month of May.


SBAC TESTING

Annual spring testing at William J. Johnston Middle School is just around the corner. Next week we have SBAC warm-up opportunities for students during homerooms, with special events at the end of the day on Friday. Also, we will provide snacks prior to testing each day. Spring testing sessions are scheduled from May 17th through May 20th with make-ups taking place the following week of May 23 rd through May 27th.The SBAC tests are not timed and students will be allowed to take breaks when needed. Parent letter March 1, 2022


TOM CURTIS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

CYB is honored to announce the opportunity to apply for a scholarship in honor of our recently passed, wonderful Lead Night Custodian, Tom Curtis’ name. Two scholarships to student-athletes who have played in the CYB league, and are presently seniors. The due date is May 26, 2022.
