LEGACY STUDIOS PICTURE RETAKE DAY & 8TH GRADE CLASS GROUP PHOTO

Picture Retake Day is November 15, 2021 as well as the 8th Grade Class Group Photo! Print and send the form in to order. Questions for Legacy Studios about pictures? legacystudios.com, 716 512 6336 or customercare@legacystudios.com.

  • The pre-ordered packages online are mailed to the school. 
  • The packages ordered online after Picture Day are mailed to the homes. 
  • If a student drops off a package on retake day to have a new image taken and a new package printed, those are also sent to the school to hand out. 
  • If you are unhappy about the photo that was taken of your student after viewing the photo online and did not purchase a package, send them to Retake Day! 
  • If you purchased a package but are unhappy, have them bring their package in to be returned on Retake Day when they have their Retake done.

It’s time to order those yearbooks. The price is $35.00 (personalization and add-ons are extra). This price will increase in the new year!

Ordering is done 100% online, no money is to come to school. To order simply go to  www.Jostens.com and follow the prompts. Please be sure to choose WJJMS for your school. Many times, the wrong school is picked and then your student will receive the wrong yearbook!

INTERSCHOLASTIC BASKETBALL NEWS

Boys and Girls Basketball tryouts will be held on November 22 and 23 from 2 - 4 p.m. Attendance both days is expected. Registration on PowerSchool and a physical dated within the last 13 months must be on file with the nurse to be eligible to try out. The girls will be in the West Gym and the boys will be in the East Gym. Once the teams are chosen, a full practice/game schedule will be given to the teams. Pay to play will be required only if the student makes the team. Pay to play is not required prior to the teams being chosen. 8TH GRADE PARENTS – NORWICH & WINDHAM TECH, LYMAN AGRICULTURAL PROGRAM APPLICATIONS ARE OPEN

The school counselors have recently met with 8th grade students who have expressed an interest in applying to either Norwich Tech., Windham Tech., or Lyman’s agricultural program. If your student is interested in attending one of these schools and has not yet met with a school counselor for information, please have them see their school counselor as soon as possible. Applications for Windham and Norwich are available online and are to be submitted online. Norwich Technical High School and Windham Technical High School - Applications opened on November 5, 2021, deadline to submit is December 15, 2021. Norwich Tech. held a virtual open house on November 3, 2021. Students must register online for the open house. To tour Windham Tech, call the school to set up an in-person tour at (860) 456-3879. The application for Lyman may be downloaded from the website, but should be turned in to our WJJMS School Counselors (Mrs. Lewis or Mrs. Yoder Gerow). Lyman’s Agricultural Program applications are now open and must be given to WJJMS School Counselor by December 6, 2021. WJJMS School Messenger Message from the week of October 18 - 22: Dear Parent or Guardian, on October 29, 2021, William J Johnston Middle School along with Bacon Academy will be conducting a research survey of our youth. The results will help us work together to help young people succeed and thrive in life. The survey is titled the Developmental Assets Profile. The survey focuses on the strengths and supports that youth have and need in their lives. This survey will help our organization work with you to ensure that the young people we work with have the opportunities they need to be successful in life. The survey focuses on young people’s own perceptions of their strengths.

6TH ANNUAL NO-LIMIT COLCHESTER FOOD BANK & BALDI CHRISTMAS TREE DRAWING

Dear WJJMS friends, Mrs. Baldi and Ms. Tamburrino are supporting the Colchester Food Bank as we approach the holiday season. There may be other fundraising events happening at this time but we wanted to share a little information with you. Mrs. Baldi and Ms. Tamburrino have teamed up together for tag sales and fundraisers over the last several years to assist and support past and present students, families, the Colchester Fire and Police Departments, the Colchester Senior Center, Hartford Hospital’s Neo-Natal Unit, The Johnson Home, Toys for Tots, as well as Animal Rescue organizations. If you donate any two non-perishable food items, the name of the person donating is entered into a drawing for a beautiful Christmas Tree from The Baldi Tree Farm. There is no minimum or maximum donation amount. Please join us in our efforts to support the Colchester Food Bank this season~ and if you can spread the word, we thank you.

CONNECTICUT CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL “PJ DAY”

Each year, Connecticut Children’s holds a PJ Day where students, staff, and families may donate any amount to contribute towards the fight against cancer and wear their pajamas to school. PJ Day this year is set for December 10, 2021. Our whole district will be taking part in this meaningful fundraiser!

 

BACON ACADEMY WELCOMES 8TH GRADE STUDENTS TO SHOWCASE NIGHT

Bacon Academy welcomes all current 8th-grade students and their families to visit and tour the high school on Wednesday, November 10, 2021 at 6 p.m. The annual showcase is open for all 8th-grade students who will be transitioning into high school for the 2022-2023 school year. 

Principal Matthew Peel will include an introduction and an overview of Bacon Academy at 6:00 p.m. in the Bacon Academy Doc Gross Auditorium. Following the introduction, students and families will be invited to tour the academic departments as well as athletic/activity programs. 

Enter the drawing for a pizza from one of our five local pizza restaurants, which have graciously sponsored this evening. Have fun, and good luck! 

 

VETERANS DAY CELEBRATION WEEK NOVEMBER 8 - 12, 2021

We are looking forward to honoring our veterans during the week of November 11 at WJJMS. This year we are putting together a ceremony via Google Slides and Flip Grid for all of our students to watch. Students are invited to submit a Flip Grid video, through this link https://flipgrid.com/b9b6c87e, by November 8 to include them in the presentation. For more information, students should contact Mrs. Cauffman at kcauffman@colchesterct.org. Additionally, we would like to honor family members with a garland of stars that will be displayed on the WJ Main Street so everyone entering WJ will be greeted by our students' gratitude. Students are invited to submit a star with the name of the veteran (or in-service) family member to include in our garland. More information is available in WJ Google Classroom. 
Also, stars will be available to all students now and through the week of November 11 to complete during workshop for a family member or in gratitude for the military's service to this country. 

 

TURKEY TROT FUN RUN/WALK 2021

Dear Parents, Students and Staff, WJJMS proudly presents the 31st running of the WJJMS Turkey Trot! This event will be held on Tuesday, November 23, 2021. We sponsor this event for several reasons: to raise money for a worthy cause, to promote physical fitness and to have fun. Last year, approximately 350 students and staff participated. 9TH GRADE COURSE SELECTION/ELECTIVES REVIEW FOR WJ 8TH GRADE STUDENTS

Bacon Academy’s 9th Grade School Counselor Ron Sefchik will visit WJJMS on March 18 and March 21 to meet our Grade 8 students. He will discuss the electives and the course selection process for 9th grade. The snow date for these events will be on March 22, 2021.
