STUDENT AMBASSADORS HOLDING SPIRIT WEEK OCTOBER 25 - 29

On Friday, October 22, 2021, all students and staff were invited to wear pink for Breast Cancer Awareness. Next week is the WJ School Ambassador’s Spirit Week.

DAP (DEVELOPMENTAL ASSETS PROFILE) SURVEY

On Friday, October 29, 2021, WJ and Bacon will be conducting a BOE-approved research survey of our students. The results of this survey will help us work with the Colchester Youth Coalition to help our students succeed and thrive in life. The survey is titled the Developmental Assets Profile. This 10-minute survey focuses on the strengths and supports that youth have and need in their lives. This survey will help the Youth Coalition to work with us to ensure that the students we work with have the opportunities they need to be successful in life. The survey focuses on their own perceptions of their strengths. Parent Information and opt-out form

FINAL INTERSCHOLASTIC SOCCER WEEK

Monday: Home game vs. Bozrah. Wear BLUE. They are a coed team. All athletes will have playing time.
Tuesday: uniform return and pizza party. The boy’s team will go to Coach D.’s Rm. at 2:00 p.m. and the girl’s team will go to Coach Baran’s Rm. at 2:00 p.m. for turning in the two jerseys and shorts. For the student-athletes who are not attending the pizza party, they must bring their uniforms to their coaches sometime on Tuesday. If anything is lost there is a fee to replace the items. $40 for any jersey lost, and $30 for the shorts. 
The pizza party will be from 2:30-3:30 p.m. outside the cafeteria. The coaches will provide the pizza and drinks. Desserts and/or chips are welcomed. 


WJJMS INTERSCHOLASTIC BASKETBALL REGISTRATION

Interscholastic Basketball registration is now open in the PowerSchool Public Portal. More information will be forthcoming. Student-athletes practice four times a week after school until 4 p.m. and once the interscholastic basketball games begin, they may have 1-2 games per week.

 

CONNECTICUT CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL “PJ DAY”

Each year, Connecticut Children’s holds a PJ Day where students, staff, and families may donate any amount to contribute towards the fight against cancer and wear their pajamas to school. PJ Day this year is set for December 10, 2021. Our whole district will be taking part in this meaningful fundraiser!


BACON ACADEMY WELCOMES 8TH GRADE STUDENTS TO SHOWCASE NIGHT

Bacon Academy welcomes all current 8th-grade students and their families to visit and tour the high school on Wednesday, November 10 at 6 p.m. The annual showcase is open for all 8th-grade students who will be transitioning into high school for the 2022-2023 school year. Principal Matthew Peel will include an introduction and an overview of Bacon Academy at 6:00 p.m. in the Bacon Academy Doc Gross Auditorium. Following the introduction, students and families will be invited to tour the academic departments as well as athletic/activity programs.

LEGACY STUDIOS UPCOMING PICTURE DAYS

Mark your calendars, Picture Retake Day/Make-up Day and the Grade 8 Class Group Photo are set for November 15! Check out shop.legacystudios.com. And for those students who already had their photos taken, utilize your QR Code Card that was given to you and any smartphone camera to scan the QR (please allow 2-3 weeks). TREE DRAWING

Tuesday, October 12 through Friday, November 19! Listen for the winner of the drawing to be announced before WJ’s Thanksgiving break! Bring in two toiletries (or more), non-perishable food items, or pet food or treats (there is no limit) Drop your items off for two drawing tickets to Mrs. Baldi in the Nurse’s Office. Questions? 6th, 7th & 8th Grade Homework Clubs

Clubs will begin in November. Permission slips with all the details are available in the office, on the digital backpack, and in the WJJMS google classroom. Get those permission slips in, if there is not enough participation the clubs will not run.


9TH GRADE COURSE SELECTION/ELECTIVES REVIEW FOR WJ 8TH GRADE STUDENTS

Bacon Academy’s 9th Grade School Counselor Ron Sefchik will visit WJJMS on March 18 and March 21 to meet our Grade 8 students. He will discuss the electives and the course selection process for 9th grade. The snow date for these events will be on March 22, 2021.
