Colchester Youth Services also has openings in Chill Skills, a group that runs through September where we will learn ways to destress with fun, hands-on activities! We also have Youth Voices, starting on September 21st for 6th & 7th graders. A group to use your voice, help others and make a difference! Contact Colchester Youth Services for more information.

 

JOHNNY’S AMBASSADORS VIRTUAL YOUTH MARIJUANA AWARENESS  & PREVENTION EVENT

Virtually on Tuesday, September 14, 2021 6 – 7:30 p.m. Johnny's Mother, Laura Stack, brings marijuana education around the globe to raise awareness of THC use, mental illness, and suicide. Laura helps parents understand and talk to their children about the potential harms of today’s marijuana. Please see the flyer for the link or QR Code.

SCHOOL MESSENGER MESSAGE RE: PATRIOT DAY FROM SEPTEMBER 8, 2021

In honor of the 20th anniversary of the events of 9/11/2001, all social studies classes at WJJMS reflected on the events of the day during classes on Friday, 9/10/21.  We wanted to let families know that we will be hearing oral stories of first responders and interviews from young adults who were students on 9/11, and discussing how the events have affected the nation.

We appreciate your busy schedules and know that not everyone has time to actively participate. Your entire donation directly benefits WJJMS students and staff through the purchase of supplies and programs that will enhance and enrich the learning experience, and they are tax deductible. BAND AND CHORUS LETTER TO PARENTS

We wanted to provide you with some information about how the WJJMS Band and Chorus will be working this year. We will be following all of the recommended guidelines for Covid-19 safety as outlined by the State of CT and the CDC. All rehearsals will be outside when the weather permits. Students will be placed 6ft. apart. When it is raining or too cold, band students will be rehearsing in the band room spaced apart. Masks on when not playing. Bell covers will be used when appropriate. Chorus students will be in the Blackbox Theater, spaced apart and masked.

 

BAND AND CHORUS SCHEDULING

  • All band students meet one period each week for a pull-out, small group lesson. Lessons will be the same day each week, but will rotate a period each week. Students will not be pulled from math or English. Makeup lessons will be provided for students who have to miss a lesson.
  • The Sixth, Seventh, and Eighth grade bands will rehearse twice a week during Workshop. Sixth Grade Band meets Period 7 on Mondays and Wednesdays. Seventh Grade Band meets Period 6 on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Eighth Grade Band meets Period 5 on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
  • The Sixth, Seventh, and Eighth grade choirs will rehearse twice a week during Workshop. Sixth Grade choir meets Period 7 on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Seventh Grade Choir meets on Period 6 Mondays and Wednesdays. Eighth Grade Choir meets on Period 5 Mondays and Wednesdays.

HOW TO SIGN UP FOR BAND OR CHORUS

All forms are found on the WJJMS Music Google Site. Look for the Band or Chorus Enrollment form. Small group band lessons begin on Monday, September 13.

TECHNOLOGY AGREEMENT FORM

WJJMS Families, please complete the Technology Agreement form located in the Parent Portal of PowerSchool. Sign in to your Parent Portal Account (not your student's account) in PowerSchool through the school website - not the App. Locate the Menu on the left side of the screen and select forms. Scroll down to find the Technology section. Click on the CPS Technology Terms and Usage Form. Complete and submit. Within the form, there is the option to opt into the Device Protection Plan for 2021-22 or waive the plan. If you opt-in, the link to the parent payment portal is located within the Technology agreement.

 

TRANSPORTATION

All change requests made in the PowerSchool Parent Portal Transportation form after the deadline of August 26 will not go into effect until after September 13, 2021. Bus notes submitted to school offices will only be accepted in the case of an emergency. For transportation changes that need to take effect immediately, please utilize our Transportation form. For long-term changes, please utilize the Transportation form and in addition, update your PowerSchool Parent Portal Transportation form and contact our office at 860 537 2313.

CLUB CROSS COUNTRY REGISTRATION


Club Cross Country registration will stay open until September 24, 2021 though the program begins on September 9, 2021! Club Cross Country registration is done via Registration Packet only (not in the PowerSchool Parent Portal). Please turn the Registration Packet in at our front office. Practices run from 2:30 to 4:00 on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from September 8th to November 9th, 2021. There are meets scheduled against other teams (at home and away).
